How things are set up

Rats at Sunrise Rattery receive a balanced diet.  Their staple food is a low-protein lab block.  They also receive supplemental fruits, veggies, and various other foods to add variety and some freshness to their diet.

They are housed in small, same-sex communities.  Each cage is made specifically for rats, and houses four or five rats.  I currently have one female cage, and two male cages.  This will change as my numbers of rats does.  None of my rats live in crowded conditions.  They all receive plenty of stimulation from their toys, cagemates, and their freetime, and all get plenty of socialization from members of my household.  All rats living at Sunrise are used to dogs, children, and sudden noises.

Every rat at Sunrise receives any necessary veterinary care.  I've only needed to take three of my rats to the vet--these three rats, coincidentally, were all "free."  Despite the low initial cost of a rat, we at Sunrise Rattery do not feel that rats are expendable pets and will continue to provide the best care possible to the animals that reside here.

Sunrise rats tend to smell the most pleasant when we use Yesterday's News cat litter.  An added bonus is that they love to dig in it, and don't tend to make as many messes as they did with Aspen bedding.
